Let the Travel Begin

Well guys, this is THE ROAD named "BIG HILL ROAD". Well it is a BIG hill and the word ROAD is questionsable?????? Very narrow, very steep, very windy, and VERY scary the first time you take a 40ft bus on it! But we did it 3 times...just for practice...HA...Once to get up there in the first place...then to refuel,(down & up)...and then down, to go back to Sacto. I think goin' DOWN is scarier than going UP.

Up there, we found out that it is alot of work to boondock. We certainally have alot to learn about "TAD" before we become good at it.

Now we are on the road. We got back to Sacto. fine...had pizza with the kids and Aunt Mimi and Uncle Ralph. Izzy changed so much in just one week that I couldn't believe it. Didn't get to see the other two Sacto babies
...next time.

We took off and stayed at the Wal Mart in Rocklin, CA...our first WW stay!!! It was totally uneventful...slept good...no problems.

We left yesterday morning with all the excitement of the first real day on the road.

Well our agenda went like this: 11:00AM, Go back to the house ands pick up a few more things that we wanted to take with us. I was gonna take a shower and get some work done on the computer, while Mike went back to Camping World to get the correct electric plug for the "Vetta's" lights. Well everything got done...except the plug was still wrong. So our agenda changed already...off we go to Camping World instead of the open road...yep...you guessed it...all the mechanics were on their lunch break...so we wait...I fixed lunch...we ate and I went to take a nap...Mike finlly fixed it himself...so off we go...down the road...2:00PM...Ww got about 10 miles and the AC stopped ... Agenda change...we pull off into a parkinglot...some how the little, girls (Izzy and next door neighbor Halle) that were in the rig the night before had pushed some of the buttons in the cockpit and had the heater on or something???...but somehow Mike got it running again. Back to the open road...3:00PM...we haven't even gotten out of Sacto. yet...

We were heading to Charleston, OR. with a one night layover at the WW in Yreka...on our way to the Chapter 9 SKP Crab Feed weekend...Well, you guessed it...we didn't make it to Yreka, our 2+2+2 plan was just going out the window. You know no more than 200 miles, stop before 2:00PM and stay 2 days every time you stop. I am gonna add...you must have 2 margaritas when you get stopped! LOLOL

We were heading out of Redding at about 5:30-6:00PM, I had fixed us dinner at the rest stop just south of Redding(nice rest area) and we were gonna make it to Yreka or bust...well "TAD" busted a air hose...by now we are exhausted...and very wary of what was gonna happen next... Well there is a new WW in Anderson, so we limped back there and Mike started researching the problem...couldn't really find the problem, but we knew that the air went out of his seat and the rig went into "screwed-up" mode when that happened. So we went to sleep...not knowing what was going to happen in the morning.

You know there is something wiered about this life, the life we have chosen, or as someone on the forum noted, has chosen us, but at the same time there is a calmness that is over me that I have never had before...no fear...no anxiety...just a little nervous with the decision of what to do next.

Well, as is always true, Morning always brings light to the subject. Mike was up early and researched the problem. He found that it was indeed an air hose. One hose...the one to his seat. He went and bought a new one and replaced it. HE'S THE MAN!!! We were back on the road by 11:30AM. I then dubbed us the 11:00AM wonders...it seems that we don't wake-up till 9:00AM and we can't get started before 11:00AM no matter what!

We made it to Sutherln, OR. to the SKP park (great park) and decided to stay for a couple 0f days. We were so exhausted when we got here last night (had 2 margaritas) that we decided that was the best thing to do. We had to skip the rally but we were just too tired to think of starting out again this morning. Mike is doing the laundry and I am doing the blog/computer stuff, and cleaning the rig.

So tomorrow we will start out again with Astoria in our sites. We drove about 6 hours yestetday...that was too much! I know that the longer Mike drives the rig and gets more usto it, it will be easier, but right now he is working very hard when he is driving. We think we will stay up there, in Longbeach, WA. (just across the river from Asatoria) for about a month. There is a NACO park there and a nice park that SKP recognizes so I think that's what we will do.

We need to be back in Sacto. the first of November for a week or so, so we will do that but then get back to the North West for the last half of Nov. and the first week of Dec. then back to Sacto for Christmas and the birth of Jackson David somewhere between Christmas and New Years. Then we will start our trek to Quartsite, for the "Class of '06 Rally...then who knows???

I'll get some more pics up before the day is over!!!

I'm going to say it one more time. Take it to a truck shop and have it checked out. Its alot more expensive on the road than in the shop.
And, replace all the batteries. Its cheaper to do preventive maintance than repairs.
    Now have a good time.
